The landscape studio that starts every garden from a blank sheet

Most studios fit your property into a style they already have. We start from your life on the land and the view from your kitchen window, and several designers work the idea until it could not belong to anyone else. Then you walk it in 3D, in real light, before a stone is ordered.

Design from $7,500. Consultations from $350, credited to your design. The drawings are yours to build with anyone.

What the Drawings Become

You approve the garden as a photoreal render

Every project is drawn, then rendered in real light and walked through in 3D before a stone is ordered. A few scenes from one Atelier Verte design.

What You Get

A design package is a set of documents. Here is every one of them.

Most studios describe this phase in adjectives. These are the actual contents: what lands in your hands, and what a contractor prices from.

  1. Master plan with zoningThe whole property resolved as one composition: where things go, how you move, where the sun and the privacy come from.
  2. Paving & pathways planMaterial, format, joint width, levels and falls. The drawing that decides whether a terrace looks made or laid.
  3. Planting planEvery plant named by species and cultivar, drawn at mature spread, so the tenth year is designed.
  4. Lighting planFixtures, beam angles, circuits and controls. Light to use the garden after dusk, never enough to see its source.
  5. Irrigation planZones, heads, pipe runs and a schedule, designed with the planting instead of trenched in afterwards.
  6. Drainage & levelsWhere the water goes in a downpour. Invisible in photographs, decisive in year five.
  7. Photorealistic visualizationReal light: morning, evening, high summer and bare February, from the seat where you will sit.
  8. 3D walk-throughStand on the terrace, look back at the house, check what the neighbors see. Second thoughts cost nothing here.
  9. Specification, estimate & phasingEvery material named with supplier and format, priced line by line, phased over two or three seasons if you prefer.

We draw every joint. We set every level.

What We Design

Two kinds of property, done to the highest level

We are not a general landscaping company and we do not take every job. We design private residences and rooftop terraces, and we do those two things properly.

Focus

Private residences

Complete grounds for houses and estates: arrival and driveway, terraces, lawns and meadow, pool surround, planting, drainage, irrigation and light, drawn as one composition rather than accumulated over five contractors and ten years.

Focus

Rooftop terraces

Engineered outdoor rooms above the city: pedestal paving, wind-wise planting, structural loading, waterproofing, drainage and approvals. The hardest landscape to get right in New York, and the one most worth getting right.

Townhouse gardens, courtyards and pool terraces sit inside those two, and we take them on the same terms. We are based in New York and design gardens across the United States: where the property is matters less than whether we are the right studio for it, and we will tell you honestly.

Why Atelier Verte

Uniqueness is in the details

Two neighbors with the same lot will get two gardens that share nothing but the zip code. That is the whole point of commissioning a design, and it is the only kind we make. We are a young studio with an old team: more than ten years of built gardens in Europe before Atelier Verte existed.

01

A fresh eye

We do not arrive with a house style to apply. We arrive with questions: how you live, what you want to see from the kitchen window, what the property is quietly asking for. The garden grows out of the answers, which is why no two of ours look alike.

02

Several designers, one garden

Each project is developed by a small team of designers, not a single hand, trained in different schools on different continents. Ideas are argued over inside the studio before they reach your drawing board. You see the version the studio itself argued for.

03

Detail by detail

Uniqueness is rarely a grand gesture. It is the width of a joint, the exact stone, the plant chosen for how it looks in February, the light that shows the path and hides its source. We design at that scale, because that is the scale you live at.

The Company We Keep

Our team has worked directly with Zaha Hadid Architects, MVRDV and MASA · Hiroki Matsuura, and alongside architecture studios across Europe.

After the Drawings

The design is the deliverable. Building it is your choice.

We are a design studio first. Every project is drawn to construction standard, so any competent contractor can price and build it. You leave with a set of documents, not a dependency on us.

The design is the deliverable. Build it with any contractor you trust, or ask us to coordinate the build; it is quoted separately. Either way, it is never a condition of the design.

Build with anyone

The documentation is contractor-neutral: master plan, paving, planting, lighting, irrigation and drainage, specified and costed to the line.

Or ask us to coordinate

If you would rather not manage the build yourself, we can coordinate it from our drawings. It is quoted separately, once the design is complete.

And care, if you wish

Seasonal care for the gardens we design is available on request, quoted separately, so the tenth year looks the way the drawing promised.

What a design project includes

Who We Serve

Three kinds of clients. One standard.

Country & Suburban

The new estate

You built or bought the house, now the grounds. Lawns, driveway, patio, pool surround: one master plan instead of five disconnected contractors. Have your own builder? Our design package is made for that.

City

The townhouse & terrace

Five hundred square feet that could be your favorite room. We design city gardens and terraces around the hard parts: approvals, engineering, access and neighbors, resolved on paper before any contractor arrives.

Architects & designers

We join your project team as the landscape counterpart. Construction-grade documentation that coordinates with your drawings, your design language respected, your client relationship untouched.

Start Here

Where to start, depending on how far along you are

Most studios in this market publish no prices and offer one way to reach them. We would rather you knew the numbers before you spoke to anyone. And the entire design phase can run remotely, from photos, a survey and a video walk-through, wherever the property is, so it starts this week, not when calendars align.

What your design will cost

Send photos and rough dimensions. Within one business day you get the design fee for your specific property, plus a realistic range for building it. Free, and it commits you to nothing.

Ten minutes on scope, style, budget and timing. It turns a vague first call into a real conversation, and nothing is decided until you say so.
